Hunter Luxury’s beloved Hendrick’s Whimsical Watering Can has claimed its tenth major packaging industry award win, taking home the coveted PLD – Value Added Packaging accolade at the Paris Packaging Week Innovation Awards.
The win cements the pack as one of the most decorated consumer packaging products in recent memory. Developed in collaboration with brand owner William Grant & Sons and based on a concept by Boundless Brand Design, the Whimsical Watering Can is a luxury travel retail gift set that doubles as a fully functional metal watering can. The PLD accolade marks the project’s tenth packaging industry award win, contributing to a total of 14 major honours across both packaging and design categories. Its latest recognition follows nine previous packaging industry award wins on top of four major successes in the design sector, earning three Gold Awards and one Silver at the World Brand Design Society Awards.
Paul Hamilton, Head of Sales and Marketing at Hunter Luxury, was delighted at the pack’s continued recognition among industry experts, saying: “To pick up ten award wins over a sustained period of success is a testament to the incredible vision of William Grant & Sons and Boundless Brand Design and the technical expertise we have in our team here at Hunter Luxury. When all parties have faith in the capabilities of one another, that’s a recipe for success – and the Whimsical Watering Can is proof of the power of collaboration.”
The Whimsical Watering Can is made from galvanised and stainless steel elements to ensure a watertight seal and compliance with food safety standards. Its multi-functionality as a watering can, a cocktail decanter, or a display piece to house flowers or bartending tools has proven to be a hit with consumers and industry experts alike, highlighting the creative potential of metal packaging in brand storytelling.
The project has already earned a host of prestigious industry prizes over the past 12 months, including the Limited Edition of the Year award at the 20th UK Packaging Awards and the Fancy Can Gold award at The Canmaker Cans of the Year ceremony. It also won at Paris Packaging Week’s sister London event in the Everyday Drink category.
“At Hunter Luxury, we believe in empowering creativity and bringing ambitious ideas to life,” added Hamilton. “The Whimsical Watering Can started life as a sketch on a napkin at a poolside bar, and now it’s wowing consumers and the global packaging community, earning 14 major awards across both packaging and design sectors. That’s a very special achievement!
“Huge thanks must go to the design genius of Boundless Brand Design, the bravery of Emily H. Ng and Keith McGregor at William Grant & Sons, and the technical mastery of my colleagues Barrie Hickmott, Tracy Howard-Ady, and Eve Mumford – it has been a fantastic team effort!”
Hunter Luxury collected the PLD – Value Added Packaging award at the Innovation Awards Gala, held at Paris’s iconic Pavillon Vendôme. This year’s Innovation Awards saw 241 innovations submitted, with 66 finalists recognised across ADF, PLD, PCD, and Packaging Première, celebrating the creativity and ingenuity shaping beauty, luxury, drinks, and aerosol packaging.
